At least 1,443 American military personnel have died in Iraq since the war began in March 2003.

Bush apparently invested in the fantasy that invading Iraq would be a cakewalk. Evangelist Pat Robertson, founder of the U.S. Christian Coalition, disclosed that when he warned the president about the need to prepare Americans for the prospect of casualties in Iraq, Bush responded, "We're not going to have any casualties."

Last week, American and Iraqi researchers -- writing in the respected British medical journal, The Lancet -- estimated that the Iraqi death toll associated with the invasion and occupation of Iraq was about 100,000 "and may be much higher." Most of them were women and children, victims of bombs or bullets from helicopter gunships.

"Iran remains the world's primary state sponsor of terror — pursuing nuclear weapons while depriving its people of the freedom they seek and deserve. We are working with European allies to make clear to the Iranian regime that it must give up its uranium enrichment program and any plutonium re-processing, and end its support for terror. And to the Iranian people, I say tonight: As you stand for your own liberty, America stands with you," the president said.

The seven Americans killed Friday in Baghdad died in four separate incidents, including the Kiowa crash. U.S. officials said they do not believe the aircraft was hit by hostile fire; the cause of the crash was under investigation. Three other soldiers died in a bombing in southwestern Baghdad, and the other two were killed in separate engagements elsewhere in the city, the U.S. command said. The crash came two days after a U.S. helicopter transporting troops went down during a sandstorm in the western desert, killing 30 Marines and one sailor in the deadliest single incident for U.S. forces in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion.

Did anyone notice the irony during President Bush's inaugural address on Thursday that as Bush talked about freedom, security personnel were dragging away peaceful protesters?http://www.reformer.com/Stories/0,1413,102~8854~2667809,00.html
President Bush used the word "freedom" 27 times in his speech and "liberty" 15 times. It's not a surprise that the words "war," "Iraq," "Iran" and "terror" were not used at all. Then again, the hallmark of the Bush administration has been high-minded rhetoric and sordid deeds.

When President Bush declared in his inaugural address America's goal of "ending tyranny in our world," he conspicuously left out mention of any tyrants.

More than 100,000 Iraqis have been killed and more than half a million Iraqi men and women are in prison. There are more than 120 imams and preachers from the association who were either killed or imprisoned. Then came the phase of the total or the near total destruction of the cities of Najaf and Falluja. How can people be expected to have elections under such circumstances?

Not a word on Iraq. George W. Bush's inaugural address contained 2,000 words of passion and promise for his second term, but no direct mention of the war that could sink it. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050121/ap_on_an/inaugural_analysis
As he swore the oath for a second time, U.S. casualty totals in Iraq stood at more than 1,360 dead and 10,500 wounded. The war already cost $100 billion, with a pricetag running at more than $1 billion a week. Bush likes to compare the war on terrorism to World War II, both generational battles against tyranny — a word he used five times Thursday. Bush uttered "liberty" 15 times and "freedom" 27 times.

The crowd was strongly supportive of the president, and jeered both groups of protesters with chants of "U.S.A. U.S.A." Members of the audience seemed to intentionally get in the way of photographers trying to take pictures of the protesters.

FLASHBACK: The Pentagon Plan to Provoke Terrorist Attacks http://www.counterpunch.org/floyd1101.html

I am blogger. Hear me roar!
The bloggers had it right all along. There were no WMDs in Iraq. The government was lying. The mainstream media got it all wrong. They reported on the claims about WMDs in Iraq without actually checking the facts. At the very most generous, they were all idiots. At the very worst, they were all complicit in the lies that sent thousands of Americans off to be killed and crippled in a war built on those lies. We were right. They were wrong. I am blogger. Hear me roar!

The blogs, with little staff and pocket-change budgets, knew these were lies and reported that to the public. The mainstream media, with budgets in the millions, and staffs of hundreds, reported these lies to the public as being the truth.

Bush Unfazed by Criticism of Iraq WMD Hunt

"Saddam Hussein is a man who has told the world he wouldn't have weapons of mass destruction, and yet he deceived the world," Bush said on Nov. 1, 2002.

The following excerpts from an October 2002 National Intelligence Estimate were declassified on July 18, 2003 and presented at a White House background briefing on weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
http://www.fas.org/irp/cia/product/iraq-wmd.html
We judge that Iraq has continued its weapons of mass destruction (WMD) programs in defiance of UN resolutions and restrictions. Baghdad has chemical and biological weapons as well as missiles with ranges in excess of UN restrictions; if left unchecked, it probably will have a nuclear weapon during this decade.

It’s a national humiliation akin to a personal one: It’s too painful to dwell on. Dead U.S. soldiers, dead Iraqi civilians, a war with no end in sight — it makes us cringe. So, we expel it from our minds, if not our lives, bury it and move on.

From the Pentagon as of January 14th 2005,figures have been released at some 1,361 U.S personnel killed and just over 10,000 wounded from the Iraq war and occupation. Is this a true reflection of the actual casualties or a manipulation of the figures ?http://www.iraq2005.blogspot.com/Second story down. Inside sources are reporting that actual American KIAs in Iraq are close to 9000.

Bush Lied, 1300+ Soldiers Died, 10,000 Wounded, 100,000 Civilian Casualties. All for a Lie. No WMDs. Iraq was NOT defying the UN. Iraq was not supporting Al Qaeda (which is a Mossad front group anyway). Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. The US is spending $5 billion a month and getting back $150 million worth of oil for it. According to Iraqis who have been prisoners of both Saddam and the US, the US tortures prisoners far worse than Saddam ever did.

The Office of Special Plans (OSP) was created by Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld to help create a case to invade Iraq.

But where was the OSP getting their information? http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/trailofdisinformation.htmlSo, this is the trail of the lies that started a war, beginning at the White House, and via Dick Cheney moving upstream to the Pentagon's Office of Special Plans, under Wolfowitz and Feith, then from OSP to an parallel group operating out of Ariel Sharon's office in Israel.

It's time to get out of Iraq
http://fairuse.1accesshost.com/news3/chtr11.htm
Concrete withdrawal plans would send a clear signal to Iraqis that the United States is not a colonial power, and withdrawal would stem the occupation's growing hemorrhage of lives and dollars. Most important, it would allow the United States to rededicate its assets to the fight against the global terrorist network rather than continuing to expend them on the struggle against insurgents in Iraq.

Bush said repeatedly during his election campaign that there would be no military draft in his second term. http://www.gazettetimes.com/articles/2005/01/03/news/opinion/1edmon103.txt
But if a soldier who has completed his term of service and returned to civilian life is forced back onto the battlefield, how is that anything other than a draft, forcing involuntary servitude?
