The battle between the mainstream media and the blogs isn't starting. It's already over.
The blogs won.

The global web log community is being called into action to lend support to two imprisoned Iranian bloggers.
Blogs are free sites through which people publish thoughts and opinions. Iranian authorities have been clamping down on prominent sites for some time.

Blogosphere vs. mainstream media
The last decade of the 20th century will be remembered for the global Internet. The first decade of the 21st century will be remembered for blogs.

If journalists won't point out the liars, who will?
Reporters at some point need to realize that fairness in reporting doesn't mean ignoring truth. At some point, if you have evidence that someone likely isn't telling the truth, you have to say it.
Bush's journalism jihad exposed
"With the Bushies, if you're their friend, anything goes. If you're their critic, nothing goes. They're waging a jihad against journalists - buying them off so they'll promote administration programs, trying to put them in jail for doing their jobs, and replacing them with ringers."

It is a sad disgrace that, unless you're tuned into the national media or what is now known as the blogosphere, or unless you read the Reporter, you can't find anything out about what our local representative in Congress has been up to over the past week.

Conservative Bloggers Blow Gaskets; Panties Also Reported To Be in "Bunch" The Bush Administration, which is the governmental outfit presumably keeping us from suffering a nuclear holocaust tomorrow, is so lax in securing the personal safety of the President that they unknowingly and unwittingly allowed a gay prostitute using a false name and posing as a journalist to get within ten feet of a sitting U.S. President (memo to The Rocket: prostitution is a crime); or B. The Bush Administration, which ran on "moral values" and the second-class citizenship status of homosexuals, has some obscure reason to be "okay" with the fact that The Bulldog is a gay whore: like, he's blackmailing them, or balling the hell out of someone high up in the White House.

Based upon recent events, it appears that George W. Bush creates not only his own reality, but also, his own news media.

Pentagon is lying its way out of an unwinnable war - again
...the White House and the Pentagon are run by civilians who have never sweated it out on a battlefield. Never before in our country’s history has an administration charged with defending our nation been so lacking in hands-on combat experience and therefore so ignorant about the art and science of war.

Russia told to pursue democracy
"We recognize that reform will not happen overnight," Bush said. "We must always remind Russia, however, that our alliance stands for a free press, a vital opposition, the sharing of power and the rule of law — and the United States and all European countries should place democratic reform at the heart of their dialogue with Russia."

Piss Off
They show an American flag and the head of George W. Bush. "Go ahead. Piss on me," the caption says.

It's unfortunate that Bush doesn't understand what is happening in the world he so arrogantly believes he owns. The European trip he's on now is a barely concealed attempt to strong-arm support for his upcoming invasion of Iran. An invasion, according to former UNSCOM weapons inspector Scott Ritter, that Bush has already approved, and is slated for June 2005.
"This is a war against terrorism, and Iraq is just one campaign ... Next, we're going to have the Iranian campaign," the official said. "We've declared war and the bad guys wherever they are, are the enemy. This is the last hurrah -- we've got four years, and want to come out of this saying we won the war on terrorism."

War on terror has bred new enemies
The intelligence chiefs on Wednesday suggested the Bush Administration's war on terror was far from being won and that, despite claims by the Administration that the overthrow of Saddam Hussein had made the world a safer place, Iraq was now a recruiting ground for Islamic extremists who represented a threat not just to Iraq, but the whole Middle East and beyond.

George W Bush arrived in Europe with research showing that anti-Americanism is deeper and broader than at any time in modern history.
It will take more than emollient words to heal divisions over Iraq, especially as Mr Bush failed to admit any fault over intelligence or misgiving for invading Iraq.

Senators visit Iraq for first-hand look
McCain said the group had not left the Green Zone, home to Iraqi government institutions and the American and British embassies, because of the security situation.

Sen. Clinton Says Iraq Insurgents Failing
Today, security is so bad that none of the senators dared drive through Baghdad's streets, even in armored cars. Aside from the Green Zone, their only glimpse of the capital came from the relative safety of U.S. military helicopters that ferried them from the airport.

Shooting the Messenger
In many of these cases, there is a common thread: The journalists, mostly Arabs, were reporting on places or incidents that the military may not have wanted the world to see--military vehicles in flames, helicopters shot down, fierce resistance against the "liberation" forces, civilian deaths.

Did US Military Kill Journalists in Iraq

According to Ms. Adie, who twelve years ago covered the last Gulf War, the Pentagon attitude is: "entirely hostile to the the free spread of information."

Al-Sadr demands US withdrawal
"I ask all parties to show patience and not to be dragged into the plots of the West which aim to destabilise the country and justify the presence of the occupation," Sadr said.
"Any attack on any Iraqi group is an attack on all Iraqis ... and it is wrong for a Muslim to kill a Muslim," he added.

There were also warnings of possible plots to attack the third holiest shrine in Islam, al-Aqsa Mosque to provoke the Palestinians into retaliation and sabotage the Gaza disengagement plan.

The assassination of former Lebanese PM Rafik Hariri "can create a new picture in Lebanon," Shakedi said.

Assassinating Al-Hariri Fits Washington’s Plan
To understand who assassinated Rafik al-Hariri we don’t need to look any further than the $1.5 billion US Embassy currently under construction in Baghdad. The new embassy, the largest of its kind in the world, will facilitate 1,800 employees and serve as the regional nerve center for American political and economic activity.

With controversial diplomat John Negroponte installed as the all-powerful Director of National Intelligence, is the US about to switch from invasions to covert operations and dirty tricks? The assassination of the former Lebanese PM has aroused suspicions

The Assassination of “Mr. Lebanon”
The assassination of Hariri matches very well (almost like a carbon copy) with previous activities of the Mossad. It provides Washington the necessary pretext to broaden its ‘war on terror’ to punish Syria and Hizbullah, something that Israel and its neocon friends have long wanted. The ‘Amen corner’ inside the Capitol Hill also would not require any solid evidence, much like the WMD case in Iraq, for approving punitive measures against Syria and its allies.

So when do we get invaded to remove the rogue government that spies on its own people, gases its own people during anti War protests, stages "terrorist" attacks, holds crooked elections, attacks other nations without cause, and uses torture on innocent people looking for WMD that don't exist?
