Minister: Bush must be 'shot down'

"He ought to be shot down."

"I say shoot every cop, national guard and politician who stands in your way, INCLUDING GEORGE W. BUSH if need be."

"If one person criticizes them or says one more thing including the president of the United States . . . I might have to punch him literally."

The twin towers are still a gaping hole in the ground fought over by greedy real estate agents, prima donna architects and culture warriors distractedly arbitrated by a Republican governor preoccupied with national political ambitions. The current plans for a third-rate office building on top of a bunker with a censored museum seems like a strange advertisement for freedom. But perhaps it suits the city's mood of lingering disappointment after 9/11's squandered goodwill. Osama bin Laden's outrage goes unavenged while we continue to suck wind in Baghdad.

If 9/11 was Bush's Woodstock, Katrina is his Altamont -- the place where his ability to unite people behind a flurry of flag-waving came to look like the hollow sham it always was.

So, us again how this man won a second term without cheating. We just LOVE that story, almost as much as we love the one about Iraq's 'nookular' bombs.

While the Washington Post neglects to mention that the war was started with Bush's lies about weapons of mass destruction.

"It might not thrill George Bush, but one of his most vocal new foes, Kanye West, has racked up the second-biggest opening-sales week of the year.

Kanye West said in comments cut out of the West Coast feed. "George Bush doesn't care about black people!"

GEORGE BUSH DOESN'T CARE ABOUT WHITE PEOPLE EITHER!

President Cheney, dispatched by President Bush to troubleshoot hurricane relief efforts on the Gulf Coast, expressed strong support today for a joint House-Senate inquiry proposed by Republican leaders and defended putting political appointees in charge of organizations such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

As Cheney was speaking to reporters, a passerby shouted obscenities at him.

Hiding Bodies Won't Hide the Truth
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/08/AR2005090800354.html
Echoing a Defense Department policy banning the photographing of flag-draped coffins of American troops, representatives from the much-maligned Federal Emergency Management Agency said on Tuesday that it didn't want journalists to accompany rescue boats as they went out to search for storm victims, because "the recovery of the victims is being treated with dignity and the utmost respect." An agency spokeswoman told Reuters, "We have requested that no photographs of the deceased be made by the media."

While we were attempting to take pictures of the National Guard (a unit from Oklahoma) taking up positions outside a Brooks Brothers on the edge of the Quarter, the sergeant ordered us to the other side of the boulevard. The short version is: there won't be any pictures of this particular group of Guard soldiers on our newscast tonight. Rules (or I suspect in this case an order on a whim) like those do not HELP the palpable feeling that this area is somehow separate from the United States.
At that same fire scene, a police officer from out of town raised the muzzle of her weapon and aimed it at members of the media... obvious members of the media... armed only with notepads. Her actions (apparently because she thought reporters were encroaching on the scene) were over the top and she was told.

There are automatic weapons and shotguns everywhere you look. It's a stance that perhaps would have been appropriate during the open lawlessness that has long since ended on most of these streets. Someone else points out on television as I post this: the fact that the National Guard now bars entry (by journalists) to the very places where people last week were barred from LEAVING (The Convention Center and Superdome) is a kind of perverse and perfectly backward postscript to this awful chapter in American history.

"Suddenly it all comes down, all at once. You see what you are, what you have done, or, more accurately, what you haven't done, (for that was all that was required of most of us: that we do nothing). You remember the occasions in which maybe if you had stood others would have stood too. You remember everything now, and your heart breaks. Too late. You are compromised beyond repair." They Thought They Were Free, The Germans, 1938-45 University of Chicago Press, 1955

Comments:
Well-the gov't may have some flack coming from these poor reactions to a US catastrophe, but don't you think the local gov'ts have a good deal to be accountable for? Years of knowing that their city was a ticking time bomb. 48 hours warning that a cat 4-5 hurricane was heading for them. Laws on the books that school buses were to be used to evacuate those without the ability to evacuate on their own. National Guard units within their own states not in the ready. Superdome being assigned as a civil shelter that was not prepared in advance to be a civil shelter. Many more. These are all the responsibilities of the State Gov'ts and they weren't ready. Is it that they are democrats or that its just Bush bashing time again?

So when do we get invaded to remove the rogue government that spies on its own people, gases its own people during anti War protests, stages "terrorist" attacks, holds crooked elections, attacks other nations without cause, and uses torture on innocent people looking for WMD that don't exist?
